THE KING OF COXINHA {2015, short doc - 15:30min}

A documentary about Thales, a Brazilian cook that decides to move back to his hometown after 33 years of living in the US.
Filmed in a vérité style, the movie shows his last days before the trip, cooking and packing while reflecting on themes such as food labour, immigration and heritage. It is a record of the mixed feelings of relief and gratitude in an immigrant's last goodbye.
Food 52 and Feet in Two Worlds featured an interview with me about the film (you can check below 2 excerpts of the film used in these interviews).

Credits:
I directed, shot and edited the film during my graduate certificate in Documentary at The New School. Deanna Kamiel was my adviser, and Päivi Kankaro and Alex Brown helped me with sound recording. The original soundtrack is composed and performed by Fernando Duarte.
I shot using DSLR cameras + Zoom H4N recorder. Edited using Avid.
